Recently Sarah and I had the pleasure of spending the day with artist Phillip K Smith III and his latest work Lucid Stead in Joshua Tree, CA. We spent a solid 14 hours with the installation and I left feeling like I could shoot so much more. Phillip describes Lucid Stead this way: “Like the enveloping vista that changes hue as time passes, Lucid Stead transforms. In daylight the 70 year old homesteaders shack reflects and refracts the surrounding terrain as if a mirage or hallucination. As the sun tucks behind the mountains, slowly shifting, geometric color fields emerge until they hover in the desert darkness”. Above are some of my favorites from our time in Joshua Tree. Enjoy!
